Butter, Eggs and Parade Braids

Butter, Eggs and Parade Braids

Every year a one-of-a-kind festival and parade celebrating Petaluma’s rich agricultural heritage including booths, food and entertainment returns in April called Butter and Eggs Day! The parade features live animals, marching bands, floats and more. Over 110 units march through Downtown, enjoy food and drink, music, arts and crafts and an area just for kids! There’s even a Cow Chip Toss, and Cutest Lil’ Chick Contest featuring locals dressing up their wee ones as baby chicks, which Lana adores seeing! We lost count at 60 baby chicks that morning. Parents really rose to the costume challenge this year!

We started our day at Hotel Petaluma‘s “A Toast to Butter Days”event enjoying freshly baked pre-parade breakfast bites and a Clover Butter carving exhibition in the beautiful Goldman Ballroom.  We enjoyed delicious breakfast offerings from Barber Cellars, LALA’s JAM BAR and URBAN Farmstand, Revolution bread, Sarah’s Eats and Sweets, Petaluma Toffee Company, Sherrivettes Cookies, and Petaluma Coffee & Tea Co. Local friends at Clover even showed up to teach guests how to make your own butter in a mason jar!

Next we hit Aya Salon, where Lana got to spend some time with her favorite besties. Every year Aya puts on a fund raiser for local clean water offering “Parade Braids”. Mom and I both got ours this year…mine included a gold glitter part and side buns, apparently I’m a trend setter as “Glitter Glam” and space buns are back in style. The creative crew at Aya also were selling cute succulents in their upcycled candle glasses, you all know I’m a sucker for succulents so I bought two! It’s for clean water y’all.

It was fun walking from our house and passing all sorts of adults getting in on egg themed fun too, with chicken feet, chicken masks, and event a cute couple wearing opposing chicken/egg signs around their necks, which made the walk home full of giggles. Mom even spotted “Darth Vader and Princess Leah”, not really….but really close. Instead of “The Empire Strikes Back”, we have “Lana Strikes a Pose”. I heard Lana tell the young lady, “If you want Princess Leah buns like my daughter has, you can go see my friend Amber. She even has glitter and laughs a lot.”  {True Story}.
